Taking Orlistat

Orlistat is an oral medicine taken three times a day (with breakfast, lunch, and dinner). It works by blocking about 1/3 of the fat contained in food that is eaten.
Orlistat is suitable for people who are medically obese. We can prescribe it to those with a body mass index (BMI) of at least 28.

How quickly does Orlistat take effect?

Orlistat should be taken three times a day, usually over 12 weeks, during which time you should aim to lose about 5% of your weight. However, the speed and quality of its effectiveness dependent upon many aspects of your lifestyle. These aspects include exercise, calorie intake, food quality and smoking/alcohol consumption.

Does Orlistat treat the underlying causes of obesity?

No. While Orlistat does help reduce the amount of fat your body absorbs, it is only effective if you make complementary lifestyle changes, like diet and exercise. The results are also dependent on your personal commitment, discipline and motivation to weight loss.

Alternative Treatments

Alli is an alternative weight loss treatment that is half the strength of regular Orlistat.  Alli is available without a prescription from our stores.

Other Treatments

There are a variety of weight loss treatments available on the market, including supplementary dietary pills and surgical options.

Many experts would argue that a healthy diet and regular exercise is the most efficient weight loss method.
