Everything you should know about weight loss treatments
Important information about our weight loss clinic
During your online consultation for weight loss injections, you’ll need to upload a video showing your weight and ID. We’ll be able to confirm your identity and BMI, so we can deliver your treatment to your chosen address.
Before we can prescribe weight loss injections for you:
- We'll need to check your ID and weight
- We check your ID and weight on a video you film for us
- You need to ensure that your name on your ID matches the name on your account, otherwise your video may not be accepted
You'll need:
- A mobile phone with a front and rear camera
- A steady internet connection via 3G, 4G, 5G or WiFi
- Bathroom scales
- A full-length mirror or someone who can film you
- A valid ID - driving license, passport or national identity card
How do I check my BMI?
BMI stands for ‘Body Mass Index’. It is calculated by dividing a person’s weight (kg) by their height (metres squared).
Higher BMI scores can be used to determine the chances of you developing long-term conditions such as heart disease. However, people from Asian, Black African, African-Caribbean or Middle Eastern ethnic backgrounds may see these conditions develop from a lower BMI, so this should be factored in when BMI is calculated.
BMI should not be used to diagnose symptoms as there are limits to using it. For example not all weight is fat, which disadvantages people with a muscular build.
Medically speaking, you are 'overweight' if you have a BMI of more than 25. So, you might be advised by your GP to make lifestyle changes to try and lose weight.
You can use this NHS tool to calculate your BMI.
What’s the difference between Wegovy tablets and Wegovy injections?
As mentioned above, both forms of Wegovy contain semaglutide and work in the same way. However, each treatment is a separate formulation with different available dosage schedules and instructions for use.
For more information, read our article on the Wegovy tablet.
Who may be suitable for Wegovy tablets?
Wegovy tablets are a prescription-only medicine (POM), so are only available to patients with a prescription. You will have to speak with your healthcare provider to see if Wegovy tablets are a suitable and safe treatment for you.
As per the MHRA, Wegovy tablets may now be prescribed to adults in the UK who are:
- Obese, with a BMI of 30 or above
- Overweight, with a BMI between 27 and 30, and you have at least one weight-related health condition (such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or obstructive sleep apnoea)
Wegovy tablets may be prescribed as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight management, including weight loss and weight maintenance, in clinically suitable adults.
Are weight loss injections safe?
If taken correctly and consistently (and please consult our guide for help if you’re unsure), weight loss injections should be safe. However, you may experience side effects as you would do with any treatment, including the risk of serious side effects like gallstones and pancreatitis. For more information on these, please visit our side effects summaries for Wegovy and Mounjaro.
What should you eat when using weight loss treatments?
It is important to stick to a calorie-controlled diet when using weight loss treatments for the best possible results. Reduce sugars and fats and focus on lean proteins, whole grains and fruit & vegetables.
Can you use weight loss injections with high blood pressure?
You can use weight loss injections if you have high blood pressure. In fact, some clinical trials have shown that using weight loss like Mounjaro can result in overall lower blood pressure. Let us know if you have any issues with blood pressure when you take your initial consultation and we will determine if you’re suitable for a treatment like Mounjaro or Wegovy.
What is the best solution for weight loss?
There is no ‘best solution’ for weight loss – what works for one patient might not work for another. Generally, making healthy lifestyle choices (like reducing portion sizes and doing more exercise) will help weight loss regardless of any other treatments you might be using.
To get the best results while on a weight loss injection or pill, it’s recommended that you follow a calorie-controlled diet and engage in regular exercise.
Can treatment be approved for more than one month in advance?
New patients to Mounjaro or Wegovy can request one pen of the prescribed dose following their prescription.
Existing patients on weight loss treatment can choose between requesting one or two pens (of the same dose) from a single consultation.
Can I contact a clinician before I place an order?
Yes. If you have questions about treatment, you can message our clinicians before placing an order via your account. For messages received before 4pm, you will usually receive a response the same day.
Who can use the first consultation offer?
The offer applies to new patients only and is available on their first Weight Loss consultation.
