ED treatments: Cialis, sildenafil and Spedra

Article picture

When it comes to seeking treatment for impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED) there are a few things to keep in mind. The first is that ED can be a symptom of a serious underlying health condition such as heart disease, diabetes or prostate problems, which is why it’s important to visit your doctor if you do develop the condition. The second is that, while ED tablets such as Viagra are the most popular solution, there are a few different treatment options and management techniques available.

If you do make the decision to take ED tablets for your erectile dysfunction, you may find yourself wondering which type is best suited to your needs. Many men find that, after trying one tablet that doesn’t work, they are resistant to the idea of trying them again.

That’s why LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor now offers a combo pack of ED tablets, which includes Cialis, sildenafil and Spedra. With this pack, you can try each tablet in turn and decide which one suits you best.

To learn more about the unique characteristics of each of these tablets, read the impotence treatment comparison below.

Cialis

Cialis contains the active ingredient tadalafil and comes in tablet sizes of 10mg and 20mg. It is the longest-lasting ED tablet, and also the most expensive. For Cialis to work, you should take it at least 30 minutes before you plan to have sex. You should drink no more than one or two units of alcohol before you take Cialis as this can limit its effectiveness.

When taken correctly, Cialis can have an effect for up to 36 hours. During this period you should be able to attain and maintain an erection sufficient for sex, provided you become sexually aroused. You should never take more than one Cialis tablet in a 24-hour period.

In summary, Cialis is…

  • The longest-lasting ED tablet
  • The most expensive ED tablet
  • Effective after 30 minutes, and lasts up to 36 hours
  • Available in tablet sizes of 10mg and 20mg

Sildenafil

Sildenafil contains the same active ingredient as Viagra, sildenafil. Sildenafil is the generic (i.e. unbranded) version of Viagra. It comes in tablet sizes of 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. It is generally the cheapest ED tablet available, but because it works in exactly the same way as Viagra it is usually just as effective.

Sildenafil should be taken one hour before sex, ideally on an empty stomach. As with Cialis, you should not consume more than one or two units of alcohol before taking sildenafil and you should not take more than one tablet in a 24-hour period.

If you take sildenafil correctly and do not consume too much alcohol or eat a lot of food, the effects of the tablet should last for four to six hours. During this period you should be able to get an erection when you become sexually aroused.

In summary, sildenafil is…

  • The most affordable ED tablet
  • A cheap and effective alternative to Viagra
  • Effective after one hour, and lasts up to five hours
  • Available in tablet sizes of 25mg, 50mg and 100mg

Spedra

Spedra contains the active ingredient avanafil and comes in tablet sizes of 50mg, 100mg and 200mg. It is a mid-range ED tablet, priced between sildenafil and Cialis, and works as quickly as Cialis.

Spedra should be taken 30 minutes before you plan to have sex. Some men find that it works within 15 minutes, but this is not guaranteed for everyone. Like sildenafil, it’s best not to take Spedra with food or too much alcohol as this can limit its effects. It’s also recommended that you avoid drinking grapefruit juice when you take Spedra as this can interact negatively with the active ingredient.

After Spedra has begun to work, its effects typically last for around five hours, during which time you should be able to get erections sufficient for sex.

In summary, Spedra is…

  • Typically the fastest-acting ED tablet
  • Cheaper than Cialis
  • Effective after 15-30 minutes, and lasts around five hours
  • Available in tablet sizes of 50mg, 100mg, 200mg

Side effects won’t affect every man who takes ED treatment, but they can include light headedness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion, stuffy nose, dizziness, blurred vision, facial flushing, an allergic rash and back pain.  More known side effects include an erection that does not go away and can cause damage to the penis. Addtionally, a sudden decrease in vision and hearing may occur although these side effects are very uncommon. A full list of side effects can be found in the infomation leaflet.

Doctors recommend that you try an erectile dysfunction tablet at least eight times before switching your dosage or trying another type. To learn more about why, read this article.
