Please note, when your test kit arrives, the swab may be labelled ‘vaginal swab’. They are exactly the same as nose and throat and there should be no cause for concern. Please proceed with your sample collection, following the instructions given.
Does this COVID-19 test tell me if I have COVID-19 or if I've had it before?
The COVID-19 swab test will tell you if you currently have COVID-19, not if you have been infected in the past. If you have had COVID-19 and recovered, the virus will have been eliminated by your body. This test cannot tell you if you’ve had the virus previously.
If you would like to confirm if you have already had the virus, you can take the COVID-19 antibody blood test.
Who can use this COVID-19 swab test?
These test kits are for personal use only. You can order a test kit from us if you are over 18, but you cannot order the test kit for somebody else. You will be limited to one test kit per person at one time.
When will my home testing kit arrive?
Your test kit will arrive within 2 working days of your order being approved by our clinicians.
How and when will I receive my COVID-19 test results?
Once the lab has received your sample, it usually takes 2 working days for them to process your results. The lab will send your results to us and we will contact you by email (or SMS if you have opted in) to let you know your results are ready. You will need to log into your account and your results will be shown in your Patient Record.
Can I get a paper copy of my results?
Paper copies of results can be provided on request; please allow 3-5 working days for receipt. Please note this is not a travel service.
What are the different possible results from the COVID-19 swab test?
There are 3 possible outcomes from the COVID-19 swab test - a positive result, negative result or an inconclusive result. An inconclusive result is typically due to a poor sample present on the swab, or the swab has been damaged, so it’s very important to follow the instructions provided with your sample collection test kit carefully. In this instance we will send another test out to you free of charge.
What happens if my COVID-19 results are positive?
If your result is negative, this means the virus was not detected from your nose and throat swab. We will provide you with personalised advice and support on what this means for you.
What happens if my COVID-19 results are negative?
If your result is negative, you are a critical key worker and your test was taken within 3 days of symptoms developing, you may be able to return to work if you feel well enough. This must be discussed with your employing organisation.
There is always the chance of a false negative result, so if you continue to experience symptoms you will be given advice on self-isolating.
Can the COVID-19 test give a false negative or false positive result?
There is the possibility of a false negative result. This means it is possible for a test result to come back as negative when a person is positive. This can be due to low levels of the virus at different stages of the disease. This test is more helpful to confirm the presence of the infection, rather than to give you the ‘all-clear’.
It is currently not known how long the test will continue to give a positive result after recovery, therefore there is the chance of a false positive result.

Will LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor report testing numbers and results to Public Health England?
Our partner laboratory will be reporting the number of tests they perform and their outcomes to PHE. By doing this they will be contributing to the government's official statistics and monitoring of the virus. Your personal data will not be included in these reports.
