Important information about the chlamydia, gonorrhoea & trichomoniasis test
This test kit is not suitable for you if:
- You have any symptoms.
- You have tested positive for chlamydia, gonorrhoea or trichomonas in the last 6 weeks.
If you have symptoms, you should NOT use this service. You require a face-to-face assessment at your local sexual health clinic or GP.
If you have recently tested positive for an STI, you should contact the service that did this test for further advice.
What the test is for
These kits test for chlamydia, gonorrhoea and trichomoniasis. Only test yourself with this kit if you do NOT have any symptoms.
If you are unsure whether you need this test, you can take our free STI assessment.
How accurate is a chlamydia, gonorrhoea & trichomoniasis test?
Please note, no test is 100% accurate but it should pick up these STIs if it is done at the correct time. If you are in any doubt, we advise that you go to your nearest sexual health clinic or visit your GP.
When to take a chlamydia, gonorrhoea & trichomoniasis test
We recommend doing the test two weeks after the unprotected sex. Tests done earlier than this may not be accurate for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Trichomoniasis results are more accurate a week after you’ve been exposed to the infection.
However, if you think you might have chlamydia, gonorrhoea or trichomoniasis, you can test immediately and repeat the test two weeks after having sex (you will need to purchase 2 test kits for this).
Accessing results
Test results are normally ready within 3 working days of your sample arriving at our partner laboratory. You will receive a text and an email when your results are ready.
If you don’t receive your results within seven days of posting your sample, contact us via your account.
Understanding your results
If you test positive for chlamydia or trichomoniasis, we will advise you on the best treatment option and provide free treatment for the infection, if you are clinically suitable.

Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea & Trichomoniasis tests FAQs
-
Do I have trichomoniasis?
The main symptoms of trichomoniasis include:
Trichomoniasis symptoms in men
- Your penis head or foreskin becoming sore, red or swelling
- Increased need to urinate (and pain when you’re doing it)
- Pain when ejaculating
- Penis leaking thin, white discharge
Trichomoniasis symptoms in women
- Pain during sex or peeing
- More discharge than normal
- Changes to discharge (yellowy-green colour, fishy smell, different consistency)
However as we’ve said above, do NOT take this test if you are already showing symptoms of trichomoniasis. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, book a face-to-face appointment with your GP or a local sexual health clinic.

How is trichomoniasis tested?
Trichomoniasis is tested by analysing either urine from a men’s or MSM test or a vaginal swab from a women’s test. A lab will analyse the sample to determine whether the trichomoniasis parasite is present.
It can take some time after having unprotected sex before an at-home test can accurately detect an STI. For trichomoniasis, it’s recommended you wait one week before testing. Results are most accurate 1-4 weeks after your first exposure to trichomoniasis.
-
Does trichomoniasis show up on a chlamydia test?
If you are only testing for chlamydia then you’re unlikely to see trichomoniasis in your results (as it is unlikely that your sample will have been checked for it).
If you are taking a combined chlamydia, gonorrhoea & trichomoniasis test, you may see trichomoniasis appear in your results.
-
How long does a trichomoniasis test take?
Once your sample has arrived at our lab, you should have your test results within three working days.
