Telfast is an oral antihistamine tablet and can be taken once a day to help prevent and alleviate allergy symptoms which include itching, sneezing and a runny nose.

Taking Telfast

Take 1 tablet a day for as long as you need to treat symptoms.

Telfast side effects

Side effects include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, a rash and feeling sick. Please read the manufacturer’s information leaflet that accompanies the medication for a full list of side effects.

Effectiveness

Telfast is a very effective way of treating the symptoms of hay fever, and can be used in conjunction with other medicines. While Telfast can help you manage the severity of hay fever symptoms, it will not treat the underlying cause which is an allergy.

How it works

Telfast contains an antihistamine called fexofenadine. This works by stopping histamine from affecting cells in the body and causing the symptoms of hay fever. Histamine is a chemical produced by the body during an allergic reaction.

  • Safety: taking other medicines

    You should be able to take Telfast alongside other medicines. However, it is important that you let us know which prescription, over-the-counter medicines and recreational drugs you are taking so that we can prescribe Telfast safely.

  • Alternative treatments

    Other antihistamine tablets to treat hay fever are available to purchase over the counter in pharmacies. Simple measures can also help minimise the symptoms of hay fever, such as:

    • wearing wrap-around sunglasses
    • keeping windows closed
    • having a shower and washing your hair after a day out to remove pollen grains
    • trapped on skin and hair

    LloydsPharmacy will also have a range of eye-drops and nasal sprays that can also help with hay fever symptoms. These may be suitable to use with Telfast, ask your pharmacist for advice.
