How each tablet works will depend on the treatment and the effects of its active ingredients:

• Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, the same active ingredient as Wegovy injections. Semaglutide acts on receptors involved in appetite regulation, helping you feel fuller and less hungry
• Foundayo contains orforglipron, which acts on receptors involved in appetite regulation, helping reduce hunger and food intake
• Orlistat, including the brand Xenical, reduces the amount of dietary fat absorbed by your body

All these treatments should be taken alongside lifestyle changes like increased physical activity and a reduced-calorie diet. If you miss a meal or your meal contains no fat, you should not take your Xenical dose for that meal.

Very common side effects (i.e. ones that would affect more than one in ten patients) for Xenical / Orlistat include:

• Headaches 
• Abdominal pain 
• Steatorrhoea 
• Oily spotting 
• Flatulence with discharge

The treatment can also be contraindicated in patients with malabsorption or cholestasis, as well as affect the absorption of ciclosporin and fat-soluble vitamins. For more information, look at the patient information leaflet.

Other than the obvious difference in how the treatments are taken, there are several differences between a weight loss tablet like Foundayo and available weight loss injections:

• How often treatment is taken varies. Some weight loss injections are taken weekly, while others are taken daily. Weight loss tablets may be taken once daily or with meals up to three times a day, depending on the treatment
• How treatments work – Some tablets reduce the amount of dietary fat absorbed by the body, while other tablet and injectable treatments act on hormone pathways involved in appetite regulation
• Doses and pricing – Weight loss tablets come in different doses and prices. For the latest information, visit our weight loss treatment hub
  

Safety depends on treatments being prescribed appropriately and being used correctly. Our clinicians will not recommend a treatment like Wegovy tablets if they do not believe it is suitable for you.

You may experience side effects while taking treatment. These vary between treatments, and some side effects can be more common when starting treatment or increasing your dose. See each treatment page for more information about possible side effects.

If you’re looking elsewhere for treatment, make sure you use a legitimate, regulated healthcare provider and avoid counterfeit weight loss treatments. 

High blood pressure is not currently listed as a side effect for Foundayo, Wegovy tablets or Xenical (orlistat).

If you develop high blood pressure or your blood pressure changes while taking weight loss treatment, speak to your doctor or another healthcare professional.

The goal with weight management should be to reach a healthy weight for your height and build, and to maintain it. Achieving sustainable results and staying at your goal weight is best done by making adjustments to your lifestyle, being more active and eating a balanced diet. However, it is possible that prescription weight loss treatments can help you reach your goal weight.

Make changes to your lifestyle that you can stick to, and you will find maintaining a healthy weight easier. Fad diets tend to make your weight drop dramatically and then rise again, so avoid these. Instead, try to eat more whole fruits, vegetables, wholegrains and lean protein while increasing your activity level. Walk more, join a local sports team, or swim regularly. The occasional sugary treat is fine, but make sure it's occasional and part of a balanced diet.
