Important information about our chlamydia & gonorrhoea test
This test kit is not suitable for you if you have any symptoms, or if you have tested positive for chlamydia or gonorrhoea in the last 6 weeks.
If you have symptoms, you should NOT use this service. You require a face-to-face assessment at your local sexual health clinic or GP.
If you have recently tested positive for an STI, you should contact the service that did this test for further advice.
What the test is for
These tests check for chlamydia and gonorrhoea in the following ways:
- Male – In the penis
- MSM – In the penis, throat and rectum
- Female – In the vagina
Only test using this kit if you do NOT have any symptoms.
If you are unsure whether you need this test, you can take our free STI assessment.
How accurate is the chlamydia and gonorrhoea test?
Please note, no test is 100% accurate but it should pick up these STIs if it is done at the correct time. If you are in any doubt, we advise that you go to your nearest sexual health clinic or visit your GP.
When to take a chlamydia and gonorrhoea test
We recommend doing the test 2 weeks after the unprotected sex. Tests done too early may not be accurate.
However, if you think you might have chlamydia or gonorrhoea, you can test immediately and repeat the test two weeks after having sex (you will need to purchase 2 test kits for this).

Yes, you can still test negative even if you have chlamydia or gonorrhoea if you don’t wait 14 days before testing – an STI test is unlikely to provide an accurate result before then. If you have tested in that time and come back negative, a doctor will probably ask you to take a second test.
