Chlamydia and gonorrhoea test for men - £47.99

Dr Tom Brett

Dr Tom Brett says...

Using a condom and having fewer sexual partners are the best ways to reduce your risk of catching a sexually transmitted infection.

This test is for the two most common STIs in the UK. They can be present without any symptoms, so you need to get tested to know if you have them. If you test positive, you need treatment because sometimes they can lead to a more serious infection that spreads further into your body and make you very unwell.

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea can sometimes cause a penile discharge, pain when you are peeing and pain in your testicles. If you have pain that is severe, you should see a doctor and not do our test.

Gonorrhoea test for men - £29.50

Dr Tom Brett

Dr Tom Brett says...

If you test positive, we can inform your sexual partners if you ask us to.

Gonorrhoea is the second most common STI in the UK. It can be present without any symptoms, so it’s worth getting tested if you think you may be at risk. It’s important to treat an infection because it frequently leads to a more serious infection that spreads further into your body. Effective treatment is getting harder due to antibiotic resistance and now involves an injection.

Silver screen for men - £74.99

Dr Tom Brett

Dr Tom Brett says...

One in four people who are infected with HIV don't know that they are, but early treatment helps.

This test is for the two most common STIs in the UK, chlamydia and gonorrhoea, as well as HIV. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea can be present without any symptoms, so you need to get tested to know if you have them. They need to be treated because sometimes they can lead to a serious infection that spreads further into your body and can make you very unwell. Also, it’s much better to diagnose HIV early on as the treatments are more effective at this stage.

What is the test kit for?

Genital chlamydia, genital gonorrhoea and HIV. This test does not look for chlamydia or gonorrhoea infection in your throat or rectum or for any other infection.

Please not that this test kit cannot diagnose HIV. However, it can tell you that there were either no signs of HIV in your saliva or that the test result was 'reactive' and could not rule out the presence of HIV in your saliva. There are reasons why a result can be 'reactive' other than there being signs of an HIV infection in your saliva.
'Window period' This test kit is unlikely to pick up signs of chlamydia or gonorrhoea infection if you caught it within the last two weeks or HIV if you contracted HIV in the last three to three and a half months.

Test kits ordered before 5pm Monday to Friday will be sent out that day by First Class Royal Mail. Test kits don't need to be signed for on arrival. All packaging is discreet.

Male platinum test - £115.00

Dr Tom Brett

Dr Tom Brett says...

An ideal test for men who have symptoms, such as penile discharge or a burning sensation when peeing.

This is a good test to do if you have symptoms, such as discharge or pain on peeing and you think you have picked up a sexually transmitted infection. Do not do this test if you don’t have symptoms, choose one of our other STI tests instead.

This test looks for five different infections: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomonas, ureaplasma and mycoplasma. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are common infections in the UK, and can cause serious problems if left untreated. Ureaplasma and mycoplasma do not need treating unless they are causing you problems.

Female platinum test - £115.00

Dr Tom Brett

Dr Tom Brett says...

An ideal test for women who have symptoms such as vaginal discharge or a burning sensation when peeing.

This is a good test to do if you have an abnormal discharge and you think you might have caught a sexually transmitted infection (STI). This test looks for three STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhoea and trichomonas) and one non-sexually transmitted infection called gardnerella. The female vagina needs some bacteria to stay healthy and gardnerella often causes no problems at all and does not need to be treated. However, it can sometimes cause a smelly discharge which can be treated with remedies bought from your local pharmacy.

HIV blood test NEW - £40.00

Dr Tom Brett

Dr Tom Brett says...

A blood test for HIV that you can perform at home from a finger prick and post to our lab. Convenient, confidential and pain-free.

Our blood test for HIV has a shorter "window period" and is more accurate than our saliva test for HIV. This means that this blood test can detect HIV if you have been exposed to the virus sooner than our saliva test and there is less risk of a 'false positive'. A false positive means getting a positive result when you don't have the HIV virus. Our blood test will be able to detect HIV four weeks after you may have been exposed to the virus.

What is the test kit for?

HIV only.

Please note that this saliva test is not as accurate as an HIV blood test. This is because it can react with other viruses. The saliva test is very good at ruling out HIV, but not so good at definitely diagnosing it. This test will tell give you one of two results:

'Negative': this means that there are no signs of HIV in this sample. You don’t need to do anything else apart from making sure you practice safe sex.

'Reactive': this means that the test can’t rule out the presence of HIV in your saliva. The test might have reacted with a flu or cold virus and you need to have further tests. A reactive result does NOT mean that you definitely have HIV.
'Window period' The test is unlikely to detect HIV if you contracted HIV in the last three to three and a half months since possible exposure to HIV .

How do I access my test result?

If your test result is 'negative' we'll upload your test result into your online Patient Record and you'll be able to access it by logging back with your username and password.

If your result is 'reactive' a doctor will arrange a telephone conversation with you to discuss your result and tell you how to access further medical care.

Please note that we may also need to call you if your sample is labelled incorrectly.
What if I test positive? If your HIV test result is 'reactive' one of our doctors will contact you to arrange a telephone consultation to discuss your results and tell you what to do next. The doctor will probably advise you to be seen at your local GUM clinic to have further tests. Please remember that a 'reactive' result could be caused by other viruses.
Confidentiality Your test result will be completely confidential. We will not inform your GP or anyone else of your test result or that you have used our service unless you specifically ask us to.

What can be diagnosed?

Our doctors can diagnose genital warts, genital herpes, fungal rash, molluscum contagiosum and cysts for patients using this service. We'll also tell you if it's nothing to worry about.

Occasionally we're unable to diagnose your condition and will advise you to visit your GP. Because you're paying for our professional advice rather than for the guarantee of a diagnosis, we're unable to make a refund in this instance.
What will I be able to treat?
Our doctors can prescribe treatment for most of the conditions they can diagnose, if you're suitable. The cost of the treatment will vary depending on the doctor's diagnosis.
What makes a good photograph? It's best to upload two photographs taken from slightly different angles. Ideally take one close up and the second from further away. Photographs should be in focus and have a resolution of at least three megapixels. If you're using your mobile to take the photo, double-check the resolution.
Using a flash It's best not to use the flash on your camera as this can make the picture too bright to see clearly.
File formats
The file you upload needs to be a jpeg or a png.
How quickly will I get a
reply from a doctor?
We aim to assess your photograph within half a working day. If our doctor thinks it's necessary to obtain another doctor's opinion, this may delay things slightly.
