How our COVID-19 home test kit service works

  1. Request your test kit online and receive it by post.

  2. Take the test using the instructions provided. Lateral flow test users will get their result within 15 minutes. If you’re taking a PCR or antibody test, package up your sample and send it back to the lab.

    Free to send back to the lab if needed ​​​​​​​​​​​

  3. View or download your PCR or antibody results from your Patient Record. We’ll let you know as soon as they are ready by email or text.

    PCR and antibody results are available an estimated three working days from the lab receiving your sample. This timeline is an estimate and it could take longer.

About the Step Ahead lateral flow test

  • What’s included in each test?

    With each test you’ll get: 

    • 1x antigen extraction tube with reagent 
    • 1x sterilized swab 
    • 1x test device 
    • 1x collection bag 
    • 1x instructions 

  • Who is the Step Ahead lateral flow test suitable for?

    This lateral flow tests is suitable for adults aged 18 and over. 

  • How to use the test

    1. Roll the swab firmly around the inside of your nostril, making five complete circles. 
    2. Using the same swab repeat this process for the other nostril to ensure an adequate amount of specimen is collected. 
    3. Place the swab into the extraction tube, rotate the swab for about 10 seconds and then press the swab head against the tube wall three times to release the antigen in the swab. 
    4. Hold the extraction tube vertically and add two drops of the test specimens into the specimen well. 
    5. Start your timer. 
    6. Read results at 15 minutes. 
    7. Do not read results after 30 minutes. 

  • Warnings and cautions for the lateral flow test

    • Avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes before doing the test to reduce the risk of spoiling the test. 
    • Please do not read the results on your test cassette after 30 minutes as it may lead to false positive results. 
    • Store your test kit at room temperature between 2-30°C. 
    • Do not store it in a fridge and keep out of direct sunlight. 
    • Do not use the test after the expiration date. 
    • All used tests should be discarded in a closed bag and in accordance with local regulations.
    • If the extraction buffer accidentally contacts your skin or eyes, wash it with large amounts of water and contact your doctor if necessary. 
    • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
