Can I buy Wegovy pills online or over the counter?
Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine (POM), meaning you will need a prescription for the treatment before you are able to access it.
If you’re able to buy Wegovy tablets online or over-the-counter without a prescription, be careful as this may be a counterfeit treatment.

What’s the difference between Wegovy pills and other weight loss tablets?
While there are other weight loss tablets available from medical services, these operate in a different way to Wegovy. For example:
- Treatments like Orlistat and Xenical work by stopping your body from breaking down a percentage of the fat you’ve eaten (which is passed out with your stools)
- Mysimba works by using naltrexone and bupropion to reduce food craving and overeating
These are both different to the GLP-1 mimicking process of Wegovy tablets (outlined above).

Does Wegovy affect birth control pills?
There is no evidence to suggest that Wegovy directly affects the contraceptive pill – in fact it’s recommended that patients use contraception while on Wegovy. However, side effects of Wegovy, like vomiting or diarrhoea, may affect whether a contraceptive pill is absorbed if they occur shortly after it has been taken. If this happens to you, consult the patient information leaflet for your birth control pill.
