Receive a course of three vaccines over a three week period at your chosen LloydsPharmacy.

About this Vaccine

If you've never been vaccinated against hepatitis B or you have been advised to begin a complete course of vaccines again, use our service to conveniently organise vaccination.

Our doctors can prescribe a course of three vaccines given over a three week period at your chosen LloydsPharmacy.

Vaccination stimulates the body's immune system to fight a possible hepatitis B infection without causing the disease itself but it cannot protect you from hepatitis B if you are already infected, or protect you against hepatitis A or hepatitis C.

Key Information

Course of three injections

You must have three injections for the vaccine to be effective. The three injections should be at 0, 1 and 6 months. It is then advised that you arrange for your GP to take a blood test to check your hepatitis B immunity levels four to twelve weeks after your last injection.

Selecting a participating store

To use this service, you will need to select the participating LloydsPharmacy where you want to receive the injection itself. Around 300 LloydsPharmacy stores provide this service. When you have ordered the vaccine online, telephone the pharmacy to arrange an appointment for your first injection.

Effectiveness

Two weeks after being given the final injection in this vaccination course, you should be largely protected from hepatitis B infection. The vaccine can not guarantee protection.

Possible side effects

Most patients experience no side effects from this vaccine, however you may experience tenderness at the injection site, fatigue, headache, mild fever, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite and diarrhoea.

Risk of severe allergic reaction

All LloydsPharmacy staff who provide this service are trained to manage what is called 'anaphylaxis'. Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine. Symptoms of anaphylaxis can include fainting, shortness of breath, falling blood pressure and swelling of the face and neck. Anaphylaxis is extremely rare and typically happens within ten minutes of receiving the injection.

About hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a highly infectious virus that leads to inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis B is contracted through unprotected sexual intercourse with someone who has the virus, or by coming into contact with blood from an infected person. Vaccination is the best form of prevention.

How the vaccine works

The vaccine is one injection given as a booster after previously being vaccinated against hepatitis B. The vaccine stimulates the body's immune system to fight the infection without causing the infection itself.

Level of protection

The vaccine does not guarantee protection, but two weeks after receiving the injection you should be protected against Hepatitis B for at least five years. Six weeks after having the vaccine you may wish to undergo a blood test to check that you are immune.
