Diabetes

Diabetes is a very common medical condition, affecting over 2.9 million people in the UK alone. Whilst we no longer offer diabetes treatment through this service, our doctors have put together some useful information on the options available to you.

About Diabetes

Diabetes is a common condition, in which a person's blood sugar levels become too high. There are two variants: type 1 and type 2.

Type 1 is sometimes referred to as ‘insulin-dependent’ diabetes, as it is characterised by the body's inability to produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes is the more common variant, characterised by what is known as insulin resistance, where the body does not effectively respond to the insulin produced.

Type 1 generally involves daily injections of insulin, while type 2 can be managed by taking tablets such as metformin and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
