About Diabetes

Diabetes is a common condition, in which a person's blood sugar levels become too high. There are two variants: type 1 and type 2.

Type 1 is sometimes referred to as ‘insulin-dependent’ diabetes, as it is characterised by the body's inability to produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes is the more common variant, characterised by what is known as insulin resistance, where the body does not effectively respond to the insulin produced.

Type 1 generally involves daily injections of insulin, while type 2 can be managed by taking tablets such as metformin and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
