This will be an active pill. Take a pill every day until the pack is finished (21 days). Take the pills in the correct order and try to take them at the same time each day. Then stop taking pills for 7 days. Start the next strip after the 7-day break. Taking the pills in the wrong order could mean you’re not protected from pregnancy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eHow effective is Logynon?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen taken correctly, Logynon is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. If it’s not always taken correctly roughly 9 out of 100 women will get pregnant.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you are vomiting or have severe diarrhoea you may not be protected against pregnancy. If this happens, continue to take the pill as usual but use a condom whilst you're ill. If this continues for more than 24 hours you should follow the same steps as a missed pill.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlease note – you should only start Logynon if you’re sure you’re not pregnant.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eHow long after taking Logynon are you protected?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you start using Logynon on days 1-5 of your period, you should be protected from pregnancy immediately, provided you don’t have a short or irregular menstrual cycle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you start after day 1 and have short\/irregular menstrual cycle you’ll need to use condoms for 7 days if you have sex. Your clinician will be able to advise if you need to use extra contraception in the first 7 days if you have sex.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eHow it works\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLogynon is a 'tri-phasic' combined contraceptive. This means the dose of hormones (levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol) changes 3 times a month.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pills must be taken in the prescribed order for the medicine to be effective. After completing 21 days, you will take a seven day break during which your hormone levels will drop (allowing your period to occur), before starting on the next pack.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eSide effects\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMany women do not experience any side effects, however some will. These can include mood swings, irregular bleeding, skin irritation, headaches, or feeling sick. Rarely, some women develop blood clots. This pill carries a slightly higher risk of blood clots than others.
