Who should use this screen?
This male platinum screen should be used by men who would like to be checked for a wide range of sexually
transmitted infections and/or those men who have symptoms of a genital infection such as penile discharge or a burning
sensation when passing urine.
Which infections are tested for in the male platinum screen?
This urine test is an accurate and convenient way to be tested for genital chlamydia, genital gonorrhoea,
mycoplasma, ureaplasma and trichomonas - five genital infections that are common in men. Although a proportion of men who
have these infections will not show any symptoms, these five infections can be the cause of penile discharge. All five
infections are treatable and treatment by post is provided where appropriate as part of this service.
Is this service totally confidential?
Yes. Without your explicit consent, we cannot share your test resuts with your GP, partner or anyone else.
How long should I wait before taking this test?
You should wait two weeks after any unprotected sex before providing a urine sample otherwise the test may not
detect the infections.
How does the service work?
Register online, make payment using a debit or credit card and wait for the discreet test pack to arrive in the
post. The pack does not say anything on the outside about what is inside or where it came from. When the pack arrives,
urinate into the bottle and send it off to our laboratory in the packaging provided.
How quickly will I receive my test pack?
Order before 5pm Monday to Friday and we will post your test pack in that day's first class post. You will not need
to sign for the test pack when it arrives.
How do I obtain my test results?
When your test results are ready and if you said you were happy to receive SMS (text messages) and/or emails, we
will send you a message telling you to log back into this website to collect your test results.
How long do the test results take?
Test results are normally ready within five to seven working days of your urine sample arriving at the
laboratory.
What if I test positive and need treatment?
If you test positive for any of the five genital infections our doctors will be able to treat you at no extra charge
so long as it is appropriate to do so. If you test positive we will ask you to complete a short online questionnaire that
helps our doctors decide if it is appropriate to prescribe antibiotics. You will need to take this medicine for up to
seven days depending on what treatment you need.
How will I receive the treatment?
The medicine will be sent to you in the post using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Someone will need to sign for the
medicine upon delivery but it doesn't have to be you.
What about testing for infections in the anus and throat?
This screen only tests for genital infections. Someone who is at risk of infections in the anus or throat should
consider having a broader range of tests at a sexual health clinic.
What about syphilis and hepatitis B and C?
Someone who themselves partakes - or who has a partner who partakes - in riskier sexual activity should consider
having a broader range of tests for genital infections and blood tests for syphilis, hepatitis B and possibly hepatitis
C.
