Hair-loss treatment - how we can help you
By using this service, some men will be able to stop and reverse the effects of hair-loss. Propecia, the hair-loss medicine available through this service is not available on the NHS and is for men who have visible signs that they are already suffering from what doctors call male-pattern baldness. To read about Propecia, the medicine our doctors can prescribe click here.
How the service works
Register online and fill in the hair-loss online questionnaire. You then need to decide whether you want us to send you your Propecia in the post using Royal Mail Special Delivery or whether you would like to collect the medicine from one of around 390 Lloydspharmacy stores throughout the UK. Having decided on your preferred delivery option, you then make payment online using a debit or credit card.
What happens after you make payment
If it is appropriate to do so, one of our doctors will prescribe a twelve week course of Propecia and arrange for you to receive it by post or at your selected pharmacy.
What happens if you are not considered suitable for treatment
If the doctor decides that it is not in your best interests to receive Propecia without a face to face consultation, we will make a full refund to the card that you used to make payment.
How to take your Propecia
You need to take one Propecia tablet once a day on an ongoing basis. If the medicine works and you stop taking it, your hair-loss will most probably start again.
Alternative treatment options
There are two types of hair-loss medicine. Aside from Propecia, the oral hair-loss medicine that our doctors can prescribe, there is also a lotion that sometimes works. The lotion needs to be applied directly to the scalp once a day. Studies suggest that the lotion is not as effective as Propecia. However, should you wish to try the lotion, it is available to buy at Lloydspharmacy. To read more about this medicine click here.
Potential side-effects of the medicine
Noticeable side-effects are uncommon, but sometimes Propecia can cause a rash, and a small proportion of men may experience reduced libido (sex drive), erection problems or breast tenderness.
Effectiveness
The evidence available suggests that two thirds of men who take Propecia to treat male-pattern baldness will benefit from renewed hair growth. The medicine should stop further hair-loss in the remaining third of men. It normally takes three to six months of using the medicine before any effect is seen, and the balding process will normally resume if treatment is stopped.
Unsuitable patients
You should not use this online service if you are allergic to finasteride, if your hair-loss is not consistent with male-pattern baldness or if you have a prostate condition. Women must not use this service and the medicine is not licensed to treat hair-loss in women.

This online medical service is registered with the Care Quality Commission and complies with the highest standards of clinical care.
